Handsome, blue-eyed, handsome Phil Burbank is confusing. All of Phil’s romance, strength, and fragility are captured in the past and on earth: He can castrate a cow with two quick knives; he swam naked in the river, smearing his body with mud. He was a rough cowboy like his hideout. This year is 1925. Brother Burbank is a wealthy cattleman in Montana. At the Red Mill restaurant, on the way to the market, the brothers met the widow owner Rose and her eldest son Peter. Phil behaves so cruelly that they both cry, enjoy the humiliation, and raise the cow’s hand to laugh — all but her brother George, who calms Rose and then remarries her. As Phil moves between anger and cunning, his mocking Roses take on the form of a ghost – he hovers on the edge of his gaze and whistles a melody he can no longer play. The ridicule of his son was more open and supplemented by the hands of the students of the cow Phils. Then Phil apparently took the boy’s wings. Is this the latest softening move that makes Phil look, or is the plot still threateningly spinning? Netflix
